RATHER THAN END LIFE WITH A FULL STOP
PAUSE AND CARRY ON
The Hilltops Naked farmer calendars have been created to help raise awareness of mental health and suicide rates in rural areas. The idea was created when we saw ‘The Naked Farmer’ and contacted Ben Brooksby (the creator) to see if he would allow us to do a calendar in our local area, he strongly encouraged us to help spread the word about talking about mental health.
Our aim is to try and encourage farmers and people living in rural areas that talking about mental health issues and seeking help is imperative as scary as it may seem at the time. If we can all strip down and show all our flaws you can do the same in talking about what is troubling you. With suicide rates in rural areas 40% higher than metropolitan areas and 2/3 of the farmer suicides being in those over the age of 55yr usually due to financial stresses and drought, we thought now was as good a time as any to get people talking.
All proceeds made from the calendars are going towards the new local community initiative of purchasing and setting up a mental health safe house for men and youth in our area.
We hope you all enjoy the calendars and encourage each other to have a chat about mental health.
If you’re feeling like you need to talk to someone please call Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14
The significance of the semi-colon is that rather than end their life with a full stop they pause and then carry on.
